In 2008, Vital Media launched its new proprietary dBoard® turnkey digital signage solution.
Vital Media was originally established in1998 as a provider of telephone on-hold messaging solutions designed to educate customers and take advantage of the communications opportunities created during a wait or hold time period. The company soon realized that, in addition to hold or wait time on the telephone, wait time in-store could also be utilized as a targeted communication opportunity. Assessing available technology delivery mediums, Vital Media began development of their dBoard digital signage solution. Today,
the company's partnership with Samsung has resulted in a state-of-the-art and compelling turnkey digital signage solution, optimized to meet the needs of Vital Media's independent retailer market.
Helping independent retailers compete with national chains and franchise operations is at the core of the Vital Media mission. Recognizing that these independents are often challenged to provide the same engaging in-store experience as their larger competitors,
it was essential that the Vital Media digital signage solution be a reliable platform for delivery of engaging content. To this end, the company carefully assembled a consortium of hardware, software, and service providers to deliver an industry-leading solution.
Combining Vital Media s expertise in influencing shopper behavior with Samsung providing industry-leading displays, the resulting dBoard solution is proving itself effective in the field again and again.
Vital Media s customers present unique challenges for the hardware, such as automotive service centers, where the environment can be particularly tough on technology equipment. The technology must deal with heat, cold, dust, and humidity ranges not usually found in a standard retail environment. For example, these service centers frequently have glass storefronts, which present a unique challenge in terms of glare on displays. The 450
cd/m2 typical brightness of the Samsung displays is a great tool to fight glare issues.
Ensuring reliable operation is also a key concern. The internal temperature sensors in the
Samsung displays are used to identify a potential hardware issue before it impedes delivery of services. Additionally, the RS232 connections provided by Samsung commercial displays allow Vital Media to remotely and via scheduler turn the display on and off at appropriate times, confirm and change video inputs automatically to avoid tampering, and provide real-time status updates from the display to confirm it is working properly.
Samsung s wide, 178-degree horizontal viewing angle is also an essential part of the dBoard difference, with its ability to draw customers from throughout the retail showroom environment.
According to Wil Putt, president of Vital Media, We use very high-end content creation platforms. Part of the Vital Media core competency is influencing shopper behaviors with exciting, moving images and animation. We really feel that Samsung's displays do the best
