Over the past few years, 3D technology has made great strides, and Sony has maintained a leadership position with a broad portfolio to support stereoscopic 3D content creation. A prime example of this is Sony's Stereo Image Processor (featuring the MPE-200 Multi Image Processor with MPES-3D01 Stereo Image Processor Software) to help with the task of setting-up 3D and, depending on rig manufacture, controlling the rigs during production. This solution offers a comprehensive live 3D toolkit and has earned a brilliant reputation as a cost-effective means of producing live events. To extend its support for efficient 3D content creation, Sony now introduces enhancements to this 2D/3D converter solution with the release of its MPES-2D3D1 2D/3D Converter Software*. Installed in the MPE-200, this latest software meets emerging demands for a cost-effective method of producing 3D content in both live production and post-production environments, and as a supplemental means to the use of 3D camera rigs. And - one further benefit - this 2D/3D converter is ideal for applications where space is limited. The conversion capability allows the use of 2D file footage to be incorporated into a new 3D production, as well as adding dimension to 2D live cameras that may offer a unique angle or view. Through simple, straightforward operation, this revolutionary 2D/3D converter allows the user to convert 2D images into natural 3D in real time using Sony's unique sophisticated algorithm. Impressive high performance, together with versatile and user-friendly operability, makes this solution (comprising MPE-200 hardware and MPES-2D3D1 software) ideal for incorporating 2D elements into a 3D production.
* The MPES-2D3D1 software package comprises two software programs: converter software installed on the MPE-200 unit, and GUI software installed on a Windows PC.
Key Features n Natural 2D-to-3D conversion via Sony's original algorithm with full 10-bit processing n Up to four 2D image signals can be input n Parameters can be set on each of the four input signals - Depth perception for a part of the image (Local Depth) - Depth perception for an overall image (Global Depth) n Monitoring method selectable from side-by-side, L/R mix, and anaglyph n Wide range of supported signal formats: 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 1080PsF/29.97, 1080PsF/25, 1080PsF/23.98, 720p/59.94, and 720p/50 n Audio and Timecode Bypass mode n Several software programs can be installed together in a single MPE-200 (eg, MPES-3D01, MPES-2D3D1, and MPES-FX01) and the user can switch between applications as required
